I wanted to do some videos of our neighborhood but I am a little embarrassed to walk around with my phone on the end of a selfie stick, so we have been shopping for a GoPro camera. In the meantime I watched a video of our town, Tirana, from Amelia and JP who are “slow travelers.” They stay in a country for a couple of months then move on. This avoids the hassle (and sometimes exorbitant residency fees) of getting a residency visa.
Their most recent video is of our city, Tirana. Their video is better than anything I could do with my phone on a selfie stick (and probably even if I had the GoPro.) Here is their 16-minute Tirana video. If the video doesn’t open easily in this post you can access it by clicking the link below.
You can see all their “slow travel” posts at AmeliaAndJP.com
Amelia and JP actually found some great places in Tirana that we hadn’t yet discovered, so this video was a pleasant eye-opener for me!
If you have questions you’d like answered about my experience of living in Tirana post your questions in the comment section below, or email me at Jennifer@JenniferGrainger.com
BTW The Albanian language is really hard. In my opinion I think it has more consonants than necessary and very few vowels making it hard to know how to pronounce most words. For example, the Albanian word for hello is Përshëndetje (pronounced per zun det ee yah.) That’s five syllabus compared to only two for the English hello!
I think my next post will be about the words I’ve learned that stand me in good stead in everyday encounters. When those words fail there is always either Google Translate on my phone or someone nearby who willingly translates. (One of whom was an 8 year old boy when I wanted to buy a chocolate gelato when we were spending the weekend at the beach in Pogradec a few months ago!)
Interesting video. Thanks for including it. I don’t know if we will ever be able to go there, but it certainly seems to be doable.
