Back From The (Metaphorically) Dead

Long time, no blog. Things have been rocky. Now Jennifer and I are feeling that blogging urge again.

Barry at Death’s door — the real deal

I spent four days in March in the hospital. Crippling pain. Enormous infection of unknown origin. Death didn’t even come to my door. I had to take a taxi to get to Death’s door — at the Emergency Room.

BTW, American Hospital #3 is a super place. Beautiful room, three attentive doctors. I even got an Infectious Disease Specialist who came in from home on a Sunday. 24-hour attention. Great lab and radiology! The food was horrible as is true of hospitals everywhere.

And it was cheap! About $300.00/day for the private room (with a sleeping vestibule for Jenner) and another $300.00/day for all doctors, meds, imaging, labs, etc.

I am much much better now.

Jennifer can’t walk — it’s only temporary

Not long ago, my little cupcake walked all over this town. She walked multiple times each day. To the bank, the money exchange, and to the super bakery that makes these little yummers.

Then she came up lame. Some stupid injury in one leg — and no good reason for it that I can see. An earlier “therapy” may have damaged her. She’s been getting MRIs as needed and physical therapy as needed.

In the meantime, I am pretending to be her legs. Just for the grocery store, the meat market, and the all-purpose dry goods store. It’s working out OK.

Jennifer’s advice: “Don’t get old!”

It’s gonna be all right

We’re fine. But this is a lousy topic to blog about. Our blog topics should get better from here on out.

  1. So sorry to hear that you two are hurting. I am glad to hear that you are getting good medical attention. I hope you both continue to improve.

    • Hi, Mary! Thanks! The illnesses aren’t fun, but things are a lot better now. Albania is a good country for health care.

  2. Sorry to hear you were both laid up, and so glad you are both recovered!

Today I attended my third protest in Grass Valley. It was full of old revolutionaries from the 60s and 70s, now in their 60s and 70s. The subject of the protest can’t drop dead soon enough!

    • Dear K, I’m glad you went to the protest — for the sake of the good it can do. But there are a few familiar faces that you’ve seen too often. Well, I hope there were some clever signs.

  3. Well, here’s to a long streak of good health and those decadent looking chocolate cakes! Be well you two!

    • Dear Patty O’Furniture, thanks! We want and need that long streak. We don’t want American Hospital #3 to become our second home

  4. Hello friends..so glad to hear your both on the mend. Was really missing your blogs!! ♥️♥️♥️

    • Hi LaDawn,
So glad to know you appreciate our blog posts. I am going to post one today or tomorrow that is about 4 pages long! It covers this time when we both had conditions that took us off track. It was mostly me, so the current post is mostly a documentary type post about my experience with painful knees. I am only 87, too young to be falling apart, haha In about 6 weeks I will be 88. I can hardly believe it. I have a great orthopedic doctor who is gradually restoring my painful knees to painless condition. You can “read all about it” sometime in the next few days.
      ONWARD!
      Jennifer
