Privacy Policy

This privacy policy is essentially the WordPress privacy policy. It’s typical of all “smart” blog-making front-end software packages. We, the blog/website owners, have made a few edits for clarity and brevity.

Who we are

Our website address is: https://jennandbarry.com.

Comments

When you leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form. WP collects your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided by WP to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

After we approve your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of the comment.

Media

If you upload images, you should avoid images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included.

You can download and extract any location data from images on the website. This is kind of silly, since we usually tell you where we are. If we provide a link to a hotel or restaurant, it’s because we encourage you to know its location and check it out.

The images and links serve two purposes: 1) to show what’s going on, and 2) to give you information for any visit to Albania you might be planning.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to save your name and email address via cookies. The cookies are for your convenience so you don’t have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Login cookes aren’t relevant. If you’re not a site owner, you won’t be logging in. So WP policy on this topic isn’t very exiting.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if the you visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Following a link to an external site takes you away from the page (our page) you’re on. Then you have to use your browser “Back” button to get back to our wonderful words.

Who we share your data with

Nobody. Except WP checks for spam and WP checks to see if you are a Gravatar user. That’s stated up at the top of this page.

If you leave a comment with interesting data, then you are sharing your data with others.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you “register” on our blog we store your name and email. That’s all we ask for. We think that you can delete your own comments. I mean, who hasn’t wanted to take back a comment from time to time?

You can see, edit, or delete your personal information at any time. Jenn and Barry will be checking this out. We should check out that “retained indefinitely” phrase in paragraph #1.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data WP holds about you, including any data you have provided. You can also request that WP erase any personal data it holds about you. This does not include any data WP is obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Your comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. So sayeth WordPress in paragraph #3 at the top of this page.

And in conclusion…

I will point out that Barry Schoenborn and Jennifer Grainger Schoenborn do not set WordPress policy. We are customers, and we march to the tune played by WP and its Legal Department. These days the internet is “low trust,” so we can’t give you certainty about privacy matters. However we suggest:

1. If you are a high-level government official, please do not post war plans in the Comments.

2. If you fear we may steal or sell any of your content, please do not post. See patent and copyright protection.

3. If your comments exceed our very broad definition of “decency,” we’ll probably delete them.
